Frosty Morning Set

23.11.14
Last couple of weeks I have been working on couple of winter designs for myself and my daughter. Today I'm ready to show one of them. It is Frosty Morning Set that I designed for my little one to keep her warm and cozy during winter time. This 3-in-1 stylish set is winter must have. It has all accessories you need - beautiful hat, cozy cowl and pair of mittens. All items are knitted in the round.
I knitted this set with moss stitch with the matching cable pattern at the front. I really like using the moss stitch in my designs. It is really easy to knit and it also looks beautiful on hats and on other accessories too.

The hat is made with long earflaps for extra warm and comfort. I decorated them with pair of pompoms and big pompom is on the top of the hat. I love how the hat looks on my daughter. The cowl is really comfortable to wear. It is made in shape of sweater neck so it keeps my daughter warm and stays in place.
The last part of the set is pair of mittens. I knitted them simply in moss stitch. So they match the set perfectly. I'm not a big fun of double pointed needles but it was real pleasure to knit a pair of tiny mittens for my sweetie.

The set is knitted with DROPS Merino Extra Fine yarn in white color. I used this yarn to make My First Winter Baby Hat and Scarf Set last year. I like how this yarn looks for cable patterns so decided to use it again. It also warm for winter and really soft for any child garments. The knitting pattern for set is available from my stores.

  1. Hi Tanya....I absolutely love your designs. This hat is so sweet. I was wanting to make it for a 0 to 3 month size. As I am in Western Australia and we really don't need warm clothing that much I wondered if you knew if I made this in 4 ply instead of DK on the appropriate needles if it would come out about the right size. It would also suit our climate better in 4 ply... :) I also love the waterfall bolero so might try the same with that... :) Thank you for the beautiful work you do...

    1. Dear Caroline,

Thank you so much for your compliments to my designs.

The Frosty Morning set pattern is written starting from size 1-3 years. So, the hat fits the smallest head circumference is 44 cm/17½ inches. Please check the size of your baby head first. I think you can use 4-ply yarn with appropriate needles instead of DK and it should come out a correct size but please check your gauge first. Also, I think for your climate you can use DK cotton yarn instead of DK wool. It would be easier to knit on bigger needle size rather than use 4-ply yarn and smaller size of needles.

There is another earflap hat in my hat collection – My first winter baby hat and scarf set here:

      http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/my-first-winter-baby-hat-and-scarf .

It was designed for 6-9 months only. I used DK yarn for this hat but because of cable pattern it would perfectly fits smaller baby head even if it is knitted with 4-ply yarn.

As for the Waterfall Bolero it is knitted with 5-ply yarn which is very close to 4-ply. So it would be much easier to adjust the needle size. And because of the lace pattern and cotton yarn it is good enough for any climate. I made it for our summer holidays on Mallorca last year. :)

Please let me know if you need my further assistance.
